Editorial – Issue 87

Why this editorial is special to us

This editorial comes from a very different place than usual. It is not driven solely by professional reflection or the desire to share ideas, but by a profound change in our lives that has reshaped the way we understand work, projects, and the future.

In recent months, we have received news that has completely changed our course: the arrival of a new life that will make us parents for the first time. An experience that is already teaching us, even before its arrival, that there are priorities that go beyond any professional goal, and that true success is not always measured by results, but by the meaning we give to each step.

This moment has led us to pause and look honestly at what we do and why we do it. It has made us value time, presence, and everything that often gets pushed aside. Because building a project is also building a life, and both must grow in balance.

That is why this editorial is so meaningful to us. Because it is not only about ideas or the future in abstract terms, but about a very real future that is already changing the way we see the world. A future that invites us to be more conscious, more human, and more aligned with what truly matters.

Life has shown us that some changes do not just alter plans, but redefine purpose. And that, at times, what matters most is born from what we did not expect.

This editorial is, in essence, a way of sharing that learning and looking ahead with emotion, respect, and gratitude.

Dedicated to the life growing within me,
who, even before arriving, already reminds us every day of what truly matters.

LETTER TO THE FUTURE:

WHEN EVERYTHING CHANGES

Issue 87 of The Guide Artists continues our April edition with a renewed focus on clarity, sensitivity, and the enduring power of figurative painting.

This special issue features Ioanna Stefou on the cover, an architect and painter based in Athens, Greece, whose work reflects a profound commitment to realism and the exploration of human nature. With a practice shaped by both classical discipline and contemporary awareness, Stefou approaches painting as a form of communication, creating portraits that seek to reveal the inner truth of her subjects with quiet intensity and precision.

Having worked as an architect for more than a decade, she gradually turned her full attention toward painting, deepening her path especially after her studies at the New York Academy of Art in 2014. Her work draws inspiration from everyday life and from the people around her, resulting in images that are both intimate and psychologically resonant. Alongside her figurative practice, she also paints landscapes, where her fascination with water and its inherent unpredictability opens new possibilities for experimentation in oil.
