Under September Light

There is something special about September.
Perhaps it is the light, beginning to take on a warmer, more golden hue. Perhaps it is the slower pace of the afternoons, the air quietly announcing the change of season, or that difficult-to-explain feeling that, after the intensity of summer, the world begins to turn inward.
September feels intimate.
It awakens in us the desire to return home, to rediscover small rituals, and to find beauty in the things that change. The leaves slowly begin their transformation, landscapes take on warmer tones, and nature reminds us that change can also be a way of blooming.
Autumn does not arrive all at once. It announces itself little by little.
In a different breeze.
In softer light.
In the first evening that seems to linger just a little longer.
In the colors that begin to change before our eyes.
And perhaps that is why we feel such a deep connection to this season.
Autumn speaks of cycles and new beginnings.
It reminds us that not every beginning has to resemble spring. Some things are born among golden leaves, beneath deeper skies, with a quieter, more serene kind of beauty.
This month, we celebrate the power of transformation: that delicate moment when something finishes being what it once was and begins to become something else.
Through our artists, we explore the beauty of cycles, of the fleeting, and of everything that emerges from change. Because creating also means making room for the unexpected—for what we do not yet know, but what has already begun to take shape.
And this September holds an even more special meaning for us.
Because as summer says goodbye and autumn begins to make its presence felt, we are also waiting for a new beginning.
A new life that will arrive just as September is about to close its doors.
There is something beautiful about knowing that some stories begin precisely when other seasons are coming to an end. That while the leaves begin to fall, something new may be coming into the world. That an ending can also be the beginning of something extraordinary.
Perhaps that is why this month feels so magical to us.
September reminds us that life is made of cycles, of farewells and welcomes, of pages that close and others that are still waiting to be written.
And as we watch autumn arrive, we are also waiting for our own new beginning.
With hope, with gratitude, and with hearts full.
Welcome, September.
Welcome, autumn.
Welcome, new beginnings.
And welcome to everything that is yet to be born.
Bajo la luz de septiembre
Hay algo especial en septiembre.
Quizás sea la luz, que empieza a adquirir un tono más cálido y dorado. Quizás sea el ritmo más pausado de las tardes, el aire que anuncia silenciosamente el cambio de estación, o esa sensación difícil de explicar de que, después de la intensidad del verano, el mundo comienza a replegarse hacia dentro.
Septiembre se siente íntimo. Despierta en nosotros el deseo de volver a casa, de reencontrarnos con pequeños rituales y de descubrir la belleza en aquello que cambia.
Las hojas comienzan lentamente su transformación, los paisajes adquieren tonos más cálidos y la naturaleza nos recuerda que cambiar también puede ser una forma de florecer.
El otoño no llega de golpe. Se anuncia poco a poco. En una brisa diferente. En una luz más suave. En la primera tarde que parece alargarse un poco más. En los colores que empiezan a cambiar ante nuestros ojos.
Y quizás por eso sentimos una conexión tan profunda con esta estación.
El otoño habla de ciclos y de nuevos comienzos. Nos recuerda que no todos los comienzos tienen que parecerse a la primavera. Algunas cosas nacen entre hojas doradas, bajo cielos más profundos, con una belleza más serena y silenciosa.
Este mes celebramos el poder de la transformación: ese instante delicado en el que algo deja de ser lo que era y comienza a convertirse en algo diferente.
A través de nuestros artistas, exploramos la belleza de los ciclos, de lo efímero y de todo aquello que surge del cambio.
Porque crear también significa hacer espacio para lo inesperado; para aquello que todavía no conocemos, pero que ya ha comenzado a tomar forma.
Y este septiembre tiene para nosotros un significado aún más especial.
Porque mientras el verano se despide y el otoño comienza a hacerse presente, nosotros también esperamos un nuevo comienzo.
Una nueva vida que llegará justo cuando septiembre esté a punto de cerrar sus puertas.
Hay algo hermoso en saber que algunas historias comienzan precisamente cuando otras estaciones están llegando a su fin.
Que mientras las hojas comienzan a caer, algo nuevo puede estar llegando al mundo.
Que un final también puede ser el comienzo de algo extraordinario.
Quizás por eso este mes nos parece tan mágico.
Septiembre nos recuerda que la vida está hecha de ciclos, de despedidas y bienvenidas, de páginas que se cierran y de otras que todavía esperan ser escritas.
Y mientras contemplamos la llegada del otoño, nosotros también esperamos nuestro propio nuevo comienzo.
Con esperanza, con gratitud y con el corazón lleno.
Bienvenido, septiembre.
Bienvenido, otoño.
Bienvenidos, nuevos comienzos.
Y bienvenido todo aquello que aún está por nacer.
On the Cover - Hiroshi Hayakawa
Artist of the Year 2026
The Guide Artists Magazine proudly presents Issue 106, featuring internationally acclaimed Japanese artist Hiroshi Hayakawa on the cover. As our Artist of the Year, Hayakawa headlines the most important issue of our publishing calendar while also presenting his new monograph, to be released by The Guide Artists Publishing in October 2026.
Featuring a carefully curated selection of works created between 2012 and 2026, the publication explores more than a decade of artistic practice spanning drawing, painting, sculpture, alternative photography, and paper-based works.
Born and raised in Japan, Hayakawa studied French Literature at Keio University before moving to the United States in 1991. He later earned a BFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Today, he teaches at CCAD while exhibiting internationally.
At the heart of his work is the acclaimed Vanitas series—a powerful reflection on mortality, impermanence, beauty, and decay. Through intricate lines, organic forms, and refined symbolism, Hiroshi Hayakawa has established a distinctive artistic voice that continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
Issue 106 also features an exclusive interview with Hiroshi Hayakawa, presented in advance of his upcoming monograph, along with outstanding contemporary artists from around the world as part of The Guide Artists Magazine’s weekly publishing program.
