Artist of the Year 2026
The Guide Artists Magazine proudly presents Issue 106, featuring internationally acclaimed Japanese artist Hiroshi Hayakawa on the cover. As our Artist of the Year, Hayakawa headlines the most important issue of our publishing calendar while also presenting his new monograph, to be released by The Guide Artists Publishing in October 2026.
Featuring a carefully curated selection of works created between 2012 and 2026, the publication explores more than a decade of artistic practice spanning drawing, painting, sculpture, alternative photography, and paper-based works.
Born and raised in Japan, Hayakawa studied French Literature at Keio University before moving to the United States in 1991. He later earned a BFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Today, he teaches at CCAD while exhibiting internationally.
At the heart of his work is the acclaimed Vanitas series—a powerful reflection on mortality, impermanence, beauty, and decay. Through intricate lines, organic forms, and refined symbolism, Hiroshi Hayakawa has established a distinctive artistic voice that continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
Issue 106 also features an exclusive interview with Hiroshi Hayakawa, presented in advance of his upcoming monograph, along with outstanding contemporary artists from around the world as part of The Guide Artists Magazine’s weekly publishing program.

The Guide Artists Magazine presenta con orgullo el Número 106, con el reconocido artista japonés Hiroshi Hayakawa en portada. Como nuestro Artista del Año, Hayakawa protagoniza el número más importante de nuestro calendario editorial, coincidiendo además con la presentación de su nueva monografía, que será publicada por The Guide Artists Publishing en octubre de 2026.
Con una cuidada selección de obras realizadas entre 2012 y 2026, la publicación recorre más de una década de trayectoria artística a través del dibujo, la pintura, la escultura, la fotografía alternativa y las obras sobre papel.
Nacido y criado en Japón, Hayakawa estudió Literatura Francesa en la Universidad de Keio antes de trasladarse a Estados Unidos en 1991 para dedicarse plenamente al arte. Posteriormente obtuvo un Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) en el Columbus College of Art and Design y un Master of Fine Arts (MFA) en la Cranbrook Academy of Art. En la actualidad ejerce como profesor en el CCAD, al tiempo que expone su obra a nivel internacional.
En el centro de su producción artística se encuentra la aclamada serie Vanitas, una profunda reflexión sobre la mortalidad, la fugacidad, la belleza y la decadencia. A través de líneas minuciosas, formas orgánicas y un refinado simbolismo, Hiroshi Hayakawa ha consolidado una voz artística única que continúa cautivando a públicos de todo el mundo.
El Número 106 incluye además una entrevista exclusiva con Hiroshi Hayakawa, publicada en primicia con motivo del lanzamiento de su próxima monografía, junto a una cuidada selección de destacados artistas contemporáneos de todo el mundo, dentro del programa de publicaciones semanales de The Guide Artists Magazine.
