Different, incoherent and imaginative, in this sample is shown the journey of the artist, glimpsing both his paintings and his drawings, appreciating in meticulous detail the several strokes that conform the artworks, submerging in the crazy world of Oleksii. Surrealistic in style, the works are created with the combination of classic American comic techniques and a victorian vintage aspect, shaping human figures which he combines with natural and fantastic elements. Using various artistic techniques, his tables are a clear example of mixed media with that combination of surrealist figures with more pictorial and unfinished traces to loose lines simulating portals or spirals, providing movement to the work.
This volume shows with great quality the detail illustrations, distinguishing perfectly all the different combinations of colors, figures and strokes that, jointly conform the paintings. With a modern design, the works are presented as the centre of attention in order to be enjoyed and to delve into the artist's fantasy worlds. Highlighting by the white stamping that can be found on both the front cover and the spine, adds a touch of elegance to the dark colors of the cover, enriching the book just by looking at it. With this new relaunch of the book of Oleksii Shcherbak, available from February 2025, we want to show once again the great talent that makes the artist's artwork unique, distinctive and groundbreaking. Following a modern, peculiar and even crazy style, this book is ideal for all those who want to get away from normality, discover new worlds and delve into the artist’s world, apparently chaotic and incoherent, but which forms a beautiful and thoughtful whole about the stories, feelings and experiences that are hidden behind the canvas. Specially in his drawings, it can be appreciated that “crazier” side of the artist, with the use of more realistic but imaginative figures, combining them with those strokes that look unfinished, as if they were part of his personal sketchbook, which he does one on top of the other, mixing techniques, drawings and figures, creating an awkward whole that immerses you in that non-existent life that represents Oleksii.
Moreover, the artist's works show mostly representations of young women, followed by animals in a country setting. From time to time, the female figures are accompanied by children’s drawings, symbolizing birds, frogs o little monsters, breaking with that realism of the portraits.
Likewise, her lasts paintings, stand out by a peculiar background in which fire is represented, giving a darker tone to her canvas. Finally, we can find several works in which flowers are the point of attention, situated on the heads of the young women, forming a crown.
His own world
Wanting to capture that “non-existent” life, Oleksii has always wished to represent figures from other planets, making a personal reinterpretation of traditional figurative painting and portraiture, creating new facets and proposing his own restatement of it, breaking up with the traditional schemes of art.
For all this, this book is a faithful testament to the madness artwork of the artist, showing a visual experience that mesmerizes the viewer. Attracting to those imaginative worlds that Oleksii wants to represent, he makes that everyone who contemplates his work let himself flow through the painting, going from one place to another, letting himself be carried by the figures and characters of the paintings.
Thus, he invites us to stop asking ourselves the “why” of things, to disconnect from reality and log on to his imaginary worlds, flowing through them, without order or concerns. In this way, this book will be a testimony of the artist's groundbreaking art, becoming one of the forerunners and role models of this innovative style, which it is presented as the identity footprint of the art of Oleksii Shcherbak.
