Patricia Sánchez Saiffe . Fragments of Time, Layers of Memory

The images we carry within us

The images we carry within us

This October, dedicated to portraiture, we invite you to discover Mexican artist Patricia Sánchez Saiffe and her work ALINEACIÓN, an invitation to explore the relationship between images, memory, and the ways we perceive the world around us.

Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Patricia Sánchez Saiffe has developed a rich and multifaceted artistic practice spanning painting, printmaking, portraiture, and illustration for children’s and young adult books. With more than two decades of artistic experience, her work reflects a continuous exploration of the human experience, focusing on the passage of time, the construction of memory, and the subtle ways in which our perception of childhood evolves. Through a distinctive visual language that brings together sensitivity, imagination, and reflection, she creates images that invite viewers to look beyond the surface and discover the stories, emotions, and associations that shape our understanding of the world.

Her academic background in graphic design and communications has informed an artistic approach that moves fluidly between disciplines, combining a strong visual sensibility with a deep interest in storytelling. Throughout her career, Sánchez Saiffe has participated in individual and collective exhibitions in galleries, museums, and cultural venues in Mexico and abroad, including the United States, Spain, and France. Her work is held in institutional collections such as Banco de México, the Mexican Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, Black Coffee Gallery, and Colección de Arte Milenio, as well as in private collections across several countries.

Alongside her painting practice, Sánchez Saiffe has explored the possibilities of illustration as another means of visual expression. Her collaborations with institutions and organizations such as CONACULTA, UNESCO, FONCA, and Editorial Andrés Bello Mexicana have allowed her to extend her artistic language into the realm of literature, particularly through projects aimed at younger audiences. This dialogue between painting and illustration reveals an enduring interest in the relationship between images and narratives, as well as in the imaginative worlds that emerge from personal and collective memory.

At the heart of her practice lies an ongoing curiosity about how we remember, interpret, and give meaning to what we see. Her work encourages a contemplative approach to images, opening up a space in which past and present, observation and imagination, can coexist. Rather than offering definitive answers, her paintings invite viewers to engage with the ambiguity of memory and the personal associations that emerge through the act of looking.

In this issue, we delve into Patricia Sánchez Saiffe’s creative universe, exploring the ideas, experiences, and processes that have shaped her artistic journey. Through a conversation about her practice, her relationship with portraiture, and the vision behind ALINEACIÓN, we discover the stories and reflections that inform her work. We also take a closer look at her latest collection of paintings and the new projects that are shaping the next chapter of her artistic journey, offering a glimpse into the evolution of her visual language and the ideas she continues to explore through painting.

EDITOR’S NOTE

The Language of Art and Human Connection

Art has the remarkable ability to transcend borders, cultures, and languages, bringing us closer through the emotions and experiences we share. In this conversation, we explore an artistic journey shaped by curiosity, sensitivity, and a profound commitment to understanding the human experience.

Moving between painting, printmaking, illustration, and curatorial practice, the artist reflects on the transformative nature of the creative process and the importance of remaining open to discovery. Through a deeply personal visual language, each work becomes an invitation to pause, reflect, and find meaning beyond what is immediately visible.

At the heart of this interview lies a powerful idea: art does not need to offer definitive answers to create meaningful connections. Instead, it opens spaces for dialogue, invites us to reconsider our perspectives, and reminds us that even across different backgrounds and experiences, we can recognize something of ourselves in one another.

As you explore this conversation, we invite you to consider not only what art allows us to see, but also what it helps us feel, remember, and discover.

Because sometimes, the most meaningful encounters begin with a simple moment of looking.
