Jorge Egea

Jorge Egea takes us on an increasingly compelling journey through the years and through a body of work distinguished by its deeply personal beauty.

His extraordinary sensitivity to classical Greco- Roman sources and his interpretation of the human body are the result of profound reflection. His work brings us closer to the purest essence of the human figure while remaining faithful to the canon of perfection established by the classical tradition.

The formal precision with which he represents the beauty of the body is expressed through a delicate sensibility and a masterful command of volume and proportion. These qualities make his work a powerful source of emotion, arising from the essential and unadorned honesty of his artistic practice.

This is not, however, a contemporary imitation of classical art. Jorge Egea conveys his own distinctly modern conception of classicism. Fully aware of his emotional involvement in each piece, he does not simply reproduce something that already exists, nor does he risk inheriting the flaws and limited virtues of mere imitation. Instead, he captures the character of the model, avoiding both facile idealization and excessive pathos.

Egea’s work possesses a restrained, sincere, and authentic beauty. It seeks truth and conveys to the viewer the same emotion the artist experiences throughout the creative process.

His rigorous commitment and constant pursuit of perfection can be seen both in his sketches on paper and in the sculptural development of his works. This pursuit reaches its fullest expression in the most highly resolved pieces.

The present exhibition at the UNED Exhibition Hall in Barbastro is the result of a carefully curated selection of his most recent works. It offers visitors an opportunity to experience the profound emotion his art is capable of conveying.
