Interview with Ignacio Chávez

Ignacio de Jesús Chávez stands as one of the most solid and distinctive figures in contemporary Mexican painting. His career, marked by decades of international exhibitions in Mexico, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Ecuador, and the United States, reflects a path built on technical rigor, conceptual research, and a profound understanding of visual language.

Recognized in state, national, and international competitions in painting, drawing, and sculpture, Chávez has also developed an outstanding presence in madonnari art, a discipline in which he has received six first-place awards in Italy and Germany. In 2024, he reached a particularly significant milestone when he received first place in the Master category in Italy, becoming the only Mexican artist to achieve this distinction.

His work inhabits a territory where perception, consciousness, and representation are in constant dialogue. Chávez does not simply paint images; he creates visual structures that invite reflection. Through his painting,

he explores cognitive interpretation, the phenomenology of seeing, and the relationship between what we see, what we believe to be real, and what we construct as meaning.

In his most recent body of work, the artist reinterprets works by the Old Masters through a contemporary lens. By decontextualizing them and incorporating current elements, he creates a tension between classical tradition and the visual culture of our time. This gesture does not function as a literal homage, but as a critical reflection on the fleeting nature of consciousness, the saturation of the digital environment, and the idea of the simulacrum.

Ignacio de Jesús Chávez’s painting preserves the classical heritage, but it does not merely repeat it. It reactivates it from a contemporary perspective, transforming each work into a space of thought, memory, and visual questioning. His work confirms the enduring relevance of figurative art when it is sustained by craftsmanship, intellectual depth, and a truly contemporary vision.

Closing April with Young Talent

As we bring April to a close, The Guide Artists continues to highlight a new generation of artists whose work reflects discipline, vision, and a remarkable sense of purpose.

Today, we feature the work of Ignacio Chávez, a young realist painter and founder of Atelier Percepción, whose career has grown with exceptional strength across painting, drawing, sculpture, and international street art festivals. Despite his young age, Ignacio has already achieved important recognition, including first-place awards and distinctions that have positioned him as one of the most promising artists of his generation.

His work is rooted in realism, with a strong influence from classical and Baroque traditions. Through his compositions, Ignacio explores perception, consciousness, freedom, and the tensions of contemporary life.

We close this month by celebrating young talent, dedication, and the power of figurative art to open new ways of seeing.
