Editorial – A Season of Renewal
RAMÓN A. OLIVARES | Founder The Guide Artists
The second half of April arrives with a distinct and inspiring energy. It is a moment within the season that feels especially alive, marked by renewal, movement, and a quiet sense of transformation. Art continues to stand as one of the most vital, sensitive, and ever-evolving forms of human expression, offering not only a reflection of the world around us, but also a deeply personal vision of what moves us, captivates us, and reveals beauty in its many forms. Through its language, we are able to communicate emotion, atmosphere, memory, and thought in ways that often go beyond words. Through our magazine, and through a community that continues to grow with strength and purpose, we remain committed to creating a space where every artist can be seen, valued, and given a place of their own.
In this issue, we are especially pleased to present new talent defined by freshness, elegance, and, above all, delicacy. We believe art reveals itself most powerfully when it is allowed to exist in its perfect moment, when its presence feels both immediate and lasting. It is through that sensitivity that we are able to appreciate the new visual languages, refined approaches, and emerging perspectives that continue to shape both the professional and emerging spheres of figurative art. Over the years, our community has brought together outstanding figurative artists whose work reflects a remarkable range of expression and technical ability, from deeply sensitive portraits to sculptures of extraordinary naturalism and presence. Each new edition becomes, for us, another opportunity to continue that dialogue between mastery, discovery, and artistic evolution.
April is also a month of transition, movement, and renewal. It is a time when many artists begin to prepare new projects, reconsider their processes, refine their visual direction, and allow their most creative side to emerge with greater clarity. There is a particular energy in this period, a sense of internal preparation that often precedes important artistic developments. In the work that defines this issue, we find precisely that sensitivity: a way of understanding painting as a space of encounter, emotion, and depth, where beauty coexists with sincerity, and where the human dimension remains at the center of the image. It is this balance between refinement and feeling that continues to give figurative art its enduring power.
Over time, I have come to know the most personal side of many artists. They are individuals who fight every day for an uncertain future, dedicating themselves to a path that demands conviction, discipline, and resilience. In a world that moves with increasing speed, where attention is fragile and permanence can feel uncertain, art continues to stand as a form of resistance, truth, and memory. Perhaps that is, for me, one of the most authentic visions of what art should be: a way of feeling more deeply, of understanding more clearly, and of preserving what continues to move us in everyday life. It allows us to remain connected to what is essential, even as everything around us changes.
May this second half of April fill us with harmony, inspiration, and new sensations. This is a special issue, created so that you, dear art lover, may continue to appreciate, discover, and give meaning to what art represents for you. More than a publication, we hope this issue becomes a place of encounter, reflection, and admiration, where beauty, dedication, and artistic identity can continue to unfold.
Let’s begin!
Issue 87 of The Guide Artists continues our April edition with a renewed focus on clarity, sensitivity, and the enduring power of figurative painting.
This special issue features Ioanna Stefou on the cover, an architect and painter based in Athens, Greece, whose work reflects a profound commitment to realism and the exploration of human nature. With a practice shaped by both classical discipline and contemporary awareness, Stefou approaches painting as a form of communication, creating portraits that seek to reveal the inner truth of her subjects with quiet intensity and precision.
Having worked as an architect for more than a decade, she gradually turned her full attention toward painting, deepening her path especially after her studies at the New York Academy of Art in 2014. Her work draws inspiration from everyday life and from the people around her, resulting in images that are both intimate and psychologically resonant. Alongside her figurative practice, she also paints landscapes, where her fascination with water and its inherent unpredictability opens new possibilities for experimentation in oil.
