Antonio Cavagnaro, an Italian- Chilean painter, has built a career defined by coherence, technical discipline, and a profound commitment to the language of figurative painting. His work does not arise from improvisation or trends, but from a sustained dedication to observation, structure, and the permanence of the image as a space for reflection. Each stage of his journey has strengthened a solid artistic vision, where academic rigor coexists with a contemporary sensitivity that understands painting as a territory of resistance and contemplation.

After exhibiting at the Chilean National Congress and in prominent galleries such as Ana María Matthei and Artespacio, Cavagnaro traveled to Spain to continue his studies. In 2006, he was awarded a postgraduate scholarship from Academia Arauco in Chinchón, where he studied under the renowned realist painter Guillermo Muñoz Vera. This experience became a decisive moment in his artistic development, consolidating a precise technical foundation and a deep understanding of painting as craft, thought, and visual construction. He remained in Spain until the end of 2008, a period that defined the early maturity of his visual language.

In 2010, he moved to the United States, exhibiting at LNVA in Connecticut and expanding his international presence. He later participated in the South American artists’ pavilion at the Beijing Contemporary Art Fair in 2013, positioning his work within a global context. That same year, he exhibited at the ArtCenter of Miami and at Pinta New York, entering circuits of high visibility and intercultural dialogue.

In 2014, Cavagnaro presented a solo exhibition at Expressions Cultural Gallery in Connecticut, where he was also awarded an artist residency for the entire year. This period represented a phase of conceptual deepening and consolidation of his pictorial identity. He later returned to Chile to continue developing his work from a position of full artistic maturity, with a clearly defined and recognizable voice.

In 2022, after his last solo exhibition in Chile, he relocated permanently to Madrid, opening a new chapter of international expansion. Since then, he has participated in significant fairs and exhibitions such as the Hamptons Fine Art Fair, and has collaborated with globally oriented galleries including Conde Contemporary Gallery in the United States, Drexel Galería in Mexico, ¡Ahoy! Gallery in Spain, and Benjamín Eick Galerie in Germany.

Antonio Cavagnaro’s work exists in a space of balance between tradition and the present. His figurative painting does not seek immediate impact, but rather permanence. It is a body of work that endures over time, that demands contemplation, and that reaffirms the relevance of the painterly craft as an act of thought, sensitivity, and aesthetic depth.

“Antonio Cavagnaro’s painting is grounded in discipline, depth, and permanence, reaffirming the relevance of figurative painting as an act of thought and contemplation.”

“Cavagnaro’s painting unfolds as an open narrative where ambiguity, desire, and poetic tension invite the viewer to complete the story through emotion and intuition.”
