Portraying the human figure is never simple. It requires more than technique; it calls for sensitivity to the glow of skin, the soft blurring of colors and forms, and the subtle language of expressions and gestures. Each portrait reflects a life lived, a way of being, a sense of connection to others. This complexity is what makes the human figure so enigmatic, and why Yonemura continues to return to it with curiosity and reverence.
For him, oil paint is indispensable. It allows for nuance, layering, and emotional depth. In his most recent works, he paints individuals living in today’s world—shaped by constant streams of information, often forced to resist or retreat. His figures are vulnerable, luminous, and profoundly human.
