Kimi Kuruhara – Volume I marks the beginning of a publishing series dedicated to one of the most delicate and deeply personal journeys in Japanese figurative art. This first volume presents a selection of over 200 paintings—half of a collection comprising 425 works created over nearly 25 years of uninterrupted artistic dedication.
Kimi Kuruhara’s paintings inhabit a subtle, intimate, and profoundly emotional world. Her subjects—young girls with hypnotic gazes and doll-like features—invite us to step across the threshold between apparent innocence and quiet melancholy. Inspired by her childhood fascination with dolls, Kimi does more than portray them—she breathes life into them.
