The Guide Artists Magazine Presents Issue 110

On the Cover Enrique Toledo

We begin the month of October with an exceptional work: The Sunken Cathedral by Enrique Toledo, the Cuban master whose paintings seem to exist somewhere between reality, dreams, and memory.

Born in Santa Clara, Cuba, in 1966, Enrique Toledo belongs to an artistic tradition deeply connected to the island’s culture and imagination. The son of a poet, the husband of an actress, and the father of another accomplished artist, his life has always been surrounded by creativity and artistic sensitivity.

Toledo studied at the Félix Varela University, where he also taught Fine Arts, before ultimately dedicating himself entirely to his artistic career. Since then, he has created a remarkable pictorial universe where Baroque influences, fantasy, irony, and extraordinary technical mastery coexist within the same scene.

In his work, characters often seem ready to step beyond the frame, as if the painting were only the beginning of a story that continues beyond the canvas. Humor, mystery, theatricality, and a profound fascination with the act of painting come together in a visual language that is unmistakably his own.

The Sunken Cathedral invites us directly into this universe: a magical space where imagination becomes architecture and every detail seems to hold a story waiting to be discovered.

🍂 October arrives with autumn.
