New Artists New Era

Jared Guerra Mirabal

Jared Guerra Mirabal (b. 1993, La Vega, Dominican Republic) represents a new generation of figurative painters committed to the discipline, structure, and depth of traditional oil painting while actively redefining its position within a contemporary visual culture. Largely self-taught during his formative years, he developed an early sensitivity toward image-making that later evolved into a fully dedicated practice. At the age of 24, he made the decisive transition to working as a full-time artist, consolidating a visual language grounded in academic rigor, technical precision, and a sustained commitment to the craft of painting.

Working primarily in oil, his practice centers on the construction of compositions in which the human condition is explored through symbolic and philosophical lens. The figure is not approached as a descriptive element, but as a structural and conceptual presence. Each composition is carefully orchestrated, where form, light, and atmosphere operate in a controlled balance, allowing meaning to emerge progressively rather than being immediately disclosed. This approach generates images that demand prolonged observation, encouraging a deeper engagement with both the visible and the implied, where ambiguity becomes an essential component of the viewing experience.

His work is deeply informed by the legacy of pre-19th century painting, particularly in its emphasis on discipline, composition, and the pursuit of a timeless visual language. However, rather than replicating historical models, he engages with tradition as a living structure, one that can be questioned, expanded, and reinterpreted in response to contemporary concerns. This dialogue between past and present defines his methodology, positioning the work within a space that is both historically conscious and actively evolving, where classical principles are not preserved as static references but activated as tools for contemporary inquiry.

Now based in Barcelona, he has presented his work internationally, reinforcing the growing visibility of his practice within an emerging global context. His paintings function as spaces of reflection, where symbolism, emotional depth, and philosophical inquiry converge. Through a sustained investigation into existence, perception, and the nature of human experience, his work resists immediacy and instead rewards careful and attentive viewing, inviting the spectator to slow down and confront the image beyond its surface.

This commitment to depth is also reflected in his treatment of material and process, where oil painting is approached not only as a medium but as a language in itself. Surface, texture, and tonal transitions are handled with precision, contributing to a sense of internal cohesion that reinforces the conceptual integrity of each work. The result is a body of work that operates with clarity and intention, while remaining open to interpretation.

As part of New Artist New Era, Jared Guerra Mirabal embodies a practice defined by conviction, evolution, and a clear commitment to reactivating the language of figurative painting for a new generation. In a cultural landscape increasingly shaped by speed, image saturation, and conceptual fragmentation, his work reaffirms the relevance of painting as a disciplined and autonomous language, capable of sustaining complexity, silence, and meaning over time.
